The Power of Books

A certain web designer has been imploring me to write blogs since and before he designed valeriejoyner.com. "You need to blog," he says emphatically each and every time we speak. It's not that I don't agree with him...kinda. It's just that lately I have been unmotivated and uninspired to write much of anything other than an email. Twice a week I wake up determined to write a posting and never get passed four sentences, which does not equal a blog. It's another email.

Today, I didn't go to the coffee shop to write my emails. I went to the library and traded in my old dusty card for a brand new one. It's been many months since I'd been to the library for several reasons. As I roamed the isles, browsing for a book on-foot rather than on-line, I had an epiphany. I have been unmotivated to write because I have not been reading! Duh!

There is nothing like a good book to get the juices flowing. Reading a great piece of literature inspires me to write a great piece of literature. In a high tech world where media and the internet rule, books seem old school (even on Kindle.) But I'll take a good book over Bravo, MTV, Facebook and Twitter (to name a few) any day. Books propel my thoughts while media seems to dull them.

Never underestimate the power of reading a good book. A good book gets me high! Books bring joy, healing, understanding, knowledge and growth among other things. Books change and save lives! (HOLLYHOOD does not fall under the category) Books can take you anywhere you want to go and you'll never suffer jet lag. :-)

Through reading I discovered the writer within me. Today, I remembered reading will help keep me motivated and on top of my writing game.

Read anything good lately? Holla back.

P.S. Please support your local library. It's imperative that access to books and knowledge remains free to ALL.
